- In February 2020, the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the International Organization of Migration (IOM), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Health Organization (WHO), UN International Children-s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) were selected by the UN Trust Fund for Human security to implement a joint 3-year project to improve the livelihood of the people living in the localities of Dalami and Abu Kershola in South Kordofan. Sudan-s South Kordofan state has been the center of armed conflict between the Government of Sudan and opposition groups in the past decades. The region has struggled with poverty, lack of basic services and influx of a large number of internally displaced persons (IDPs). Despite reduced violence and absence of active conflict since 2016, the situation remains volatile in terms of security and humanitarian needs. Due to the series of armed conflicts, the localities of Dalami and Abu Kershola were highly contaminated with landmines, unexploded ordnances (UXO) and explosive remnants of war (ERW), which hindered the entrance of humanitarian aid in the past years.
